The acai berry is growing in popularity and, as a result, demand is increasing. Here to answer the call is Sambazon with a brand new acai manufacturing factory. The important thing is with demand growing is attention needs to be given to the environment the berry is harvested from. Sambazon’s role in the local economy of Brazil is very important, so it’s good to see them taking care of the people and the rainforest. As mentioned by the CEO, “Our new factory is a key milestone on our mission to produce the highest quality raw material and consumer goods that promote sustainable management of the Brazilian Amazon- which is what our company stands for with the acronym SAMBAZON,” he added.
The company said its açai business model ultimately benefits thousands of small family farmers and protects the biodiversity of the rainforest. Its efforts in the Amazon were recently recognized by the Ashoka Organization with the Global Social Entrepreneurship award for market driven strategies that benefit low income communities.
SunOpta, one of Sambazon’s biggest customers, says it will quadruple it’s acai business, equating to 4 million in revenue, over the next year.
