ORAC, Antioxidants and Free Radicals

free radicalsFirst of all, ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity. Therefore, an ORAC score represents an antioxidants ability to defend against free radicals in the body.

The antioxidant donates an electron to dangerous free radicals, which are atoms with at least one unpaired electron. In excess, free radicals produce harmful oxidation that can damage cell membranes, accelerate aging and lead to various ailments. Tobacco, alcohol, stress, lack of sleep, poor diet and pollution are all significant contributors to the formation of free radicals. The Acai Berry with it’s powerful antioxidants helps neutralize free radicals, thus preventing the various ailments associated with excess free radicals.
